A Day in the life of Buzz the Zombie!

Through the many contacts Northbrook have, we were giving the chance to work with Plastic Pictures on a new advert for Playstation. In which we got to spend a day dressed as zombies, in a very hot Concord 2 in Brighton. I was fortunate enough to be picked out to be a specific playstation character 'Buzz' from the quiz games.
This was a very enjoyable day and gave a real insite to what its like to work with a professional company.

Plastic Pictures are a Brighton/London based and work with companies such as Sony and Motorola.

Warren Sarross and his life...series

Claire returned from her time in Mexico so we carried on with the video projects she set us to do before she left.

We showed Claire the orginal video we made - Finding Art - The Real Hans Dietmarr. After she viewed it, she gave us some pointers and we were told that we had to do a live performance to go alongside the videos.

Our group came up with two more characters, a classical musician and a punk poet, we then shot films for these to add to the Warren Sarross collection. See films below.

These films look at how pretentious artist can be and how easily they can be made fun of. We shot the films in a mocumentary style, very much like the film Spinal Tap.

Working with Mark Ashmore - Future Artists

From the 10th - 14th October we were working with Mark Ashmore from Fututre Artist on fourthcoming project called The Lost Generation.

http://futureartists.co.uk/2011/08/06/out-of-your-mind-in-debt-project-lost-generation-110/
Mark showed us the trailer to the project, and having watched this we got into debate on what the lost generation means. Everything that was said in this debate was directly posted to the social network site 'Twitter' which enabled the public to view a live time log of the debate, and aid the debate with their own contributions, which in turn promoted out performance at the end of the week.

After a lengthy debate, in which we touched upon the political views and what the older generation thought about our generation. We developed short films on the topics which were bought up in convosation. We progressed with these ideas and turned them into site specific instillations. This involved using technologies such as QR codes, youtube, (which will be were the public view out videos) and the online game SCVNGR, in which you have to complete a number of challenges to earn points, to gain a reward, in this case, the reward was a map which took you to the next point of the show where a QR code was situated and that lead you to one of the films we did.

All the tweets we tweeted during the debate and the rehearsal process can be found if you search #lostgen on twitter.

Research

This blog entry is just to show you what I have looked at in terms of research to aid my understanding of what we have learnt.

Networking: is when a group of people from all different disciplines within the arts (and other times out of the arts) join together to creat a networking site, in which everyone can inform everyone about what jobs are about and other news in the arts industry.  It is also a great way of making contacts within the industry. I researched into a few networking groups, one of the most recent networking groups I came across is N'emerge Artists. N'emerge Artists - Facebook

Periplum: Periplum is a company run by Claire Raftery and Damian Wright, that focuses mainly on site-specific and outdoor theatre. There a company who recieve rave reviews from 'Total Theatre'  and 'The Independent' for there shows, two main ones being 1000 Revolutions per moment and Arequiem. They hold workshops throughout the year, even in Mexico. They have just started incorporating transmedia and smart technology into there performances and are currently in rehearsals for Navigator which is to be performed at Brightons White Night Festival on the 29th Octorber.                     Periplum - Official site

Future Artists: Future Artists is an independent media and film production company, run by Mark Ashmore and Jenny Inchbald. They create new ideas around films that use new technologies and cultures during different phases of film. They are currently working as consultants to the industry, and organising events to share there skills. Future Artists - Official site

Acting CV: To help me put together my own personal Acting CV I looked at example CV's on the internet to help me get an idea of how I should lay everything out. One of the most helpful websites was:  http://www.theactingwebsite.com/

Warren Sarross Series: Having choosen to film the videos in a mocumentary style I went away a looked a bit in to the film Spinal Tap, having not seen the film personally, I had to read a brief outline of the plot to grasp an understanding. As well as this I looked in to the orginal punk poet John Cooper Clarke, and read some of his poems to get an understanding of how he writes and what type of words to look for when my character is creating a poem.

The point of this blog is...

The point of this blog is for me to keep a record on what I have been up to at university and to show the world!

I will be telling you what we have done with Claire, from Peri Plum and Mark from Future Artists, over the past few weeks.

Networking and Acting CV

On the 5th October Lisa Holloway came in to talk to us about CV's and networking in the industry.

She made us bring in CVs (acting or general) and she looked through them and gave us pointers on how to improve them.

We then went on to talking about Networking. Lisa gave us pointers on ways of Networking and getting our selves known in the idustry.

Working with Claire - Peri Plum

We have worked with Claire for the past 3 weeks on using transmedia in performance and how it can aid a performance.

We did a number of excercises using types of technology such as texting and video.

One of the first excercises we did was one were we were split into three groups and each group had to send one other group a text which consited of one word (an emotion/feeling). So once my group recieved a text we had to show that emotion to the group we didnt get the text off. After we played around with that for a while, we moved on to something more complex. In which each group had to go off around freshers fair and set a trail for the other groups to follow, but to get the other groups to a specific point we had to text them a place in which they had to go to, but change the context of what they were going to see, for example, my group sent the others to the inflatable basketball hoops, where people were just having fun and shooting some hoops, but the text we sent to the others said "get to the basket ball hoops, big game, cheer for Derek" which put a different spin on what was being seen.

Another excercise we worked on is one in which we were split into pairs, I was put with Brittany, and we were given an iphone from Claire and we had to go off and film a 30 second scene about what ever we wanted to, once we filmed we were then told to come up with a little live performace to go alongside the short film  however they had to mess with the audiences mind, what I mean by this is that either the film or the live performance had to give a different meaning to what the other was saying but still relate together.  Peri Plum
